Adorning hilly streets, nestled along the banks of the Purgatoire River, is Trinidad, Colorado, a Victorian and adobe city of about 15,000 population. Located along Interstate 1-25, 19 miles from Colorado’s southern border, at an elevation of 6,025’, Trinidad enjoys a mild, four-season climate. 

Fisher’s Peak, the distinctive landmark to the south, is a basalt-capped mesa of volcanic origin. To the north stands Simpson’s Rest, a sandstone bluff and scenic overlook. Fertile farms, ranch lands, volcanic mesas and breathtaking canyons lie to the east. To the west, just minutes away, you’ll find Trinidad Lake State Park, Stonewall, Monument Lake and other alpine lakes coupled with the magnificent Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Trinidad’s economy still revolves around ranching, farming, coal mining, railroading, transportation, natural gas, tourism and a growing art community. New business, retirees and young families are relocating from urban areas, finding the peace ~and beauty that our community offers. Life is relaxed, friendly, without crowds and traffic jams. Crime rates are low and the scenic beauty is exceptional. Our citizens, both long-time residents and newcomers alike, take great pride in our community.
